This research on Development of Woven Fibers from Sedge and Vetiver Interacted with Local Wisdom toward Innovation and Technological Design of Eco-Friendly Functional and Decorative Products to Enhance Commercial Value and Stimula the Phetchabun Economy. The objectives of this study were: (1) to examine data and methods for developing vetiver fibers and to experiment with dyeing vetiver fibers using natural dyes; (2) to design and develop functional and decorative products, including lamps, document bags, and women’s handbags; and (3) to evaluate producer satisfaction with the developed products. The target group consisted of 32 members of the vetiver and sedge handicraft community in Ban Khok Prong, Phetchabun Province. The research instruments included interview forms and satisfaction assessment questionnaires. Data were analyzed using mean values and standard deviation (S.D.).
The findings revealed that, in terms of fiber development and dyeing, vetiver fibers were subjected to both cold and hot dyeing processes using natural dyes derived from heartwood and leaves. Mordants were employed to improve color fastness while maintaining environmental friendliness in accordance with the BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) economy approach. The dyeing results were rated at a good level. Regarding product design, three product categories were developed: lamps, document bags, and women’s handbags. The designs combined natural materials with modern materials, such as leather and metal decorative components, to elevate the products to an international standard. The overall satisfaction evaluation indicated that producers expressed a “very high” level of satisfaction with the developed products. The detailed results were as follows: Women’s handbag Design 1 (mean = 4.72, very high); Women’s handbag Design 2 (mean = 4.75, very high); Document bag Design 1 (mean = 4.50, very high); Document bag Design 2 (mean = 4.44, high); Lamp Design 1 (mean = 4.66, very high); Lamp Design 2 (mean = 4.59, very high).
In conclusion, integrating local wisdom with innovative design and environmentally friendly materials effectively enhances commercial value and successfully responds to contemporary market demands.
