The present study aimed 1) to accumulate significant vocabulary of Lom dialect having been used from the past until nowadays, and 2) to conserve idioms of Lom dialect. The samples used to research were the experts of Lom dialect, namely folk-scholars, academicians, leaders, and elderly people in Lomsak and Lomkao districts, Phetchabun province. Also, the instruments used to collect data consisted of the interview and participatory observation.
The research findings were:
1. According to the interview and participatory observation, the total vocabulary accumulated from the respondents: folk-scholars, academicians, leaders, and elderly people in Lomsak and Lomkao districts, was 420 words.
2. The accent of Lom dialect in both districts was merely distinct on some words without different meanings, for example, ‘Boed’ by Lomsak accentual word and ‘Hmoed’ by Lomkao accentual word in the similar meaning of ‘Run Out’, and ‘Hua Khi Khai’ by Lomsak accentual word and ‘Hua Si Khai’ by Lomkao accentual word in the similar meaning of ‘Lemongrass.’ In fact, their accents were originally influenced by Luangprabang and Vientian, Laos: these two accents – most people speaking Lom dialect with Luangprabang accent live in Lomsak town, and those speaking Lom dialect with Vientian accent live in Tiew village, Lomsak; meanwhile, people in Lomkao obviously speak Lom dialect with Luangprabang accent.
3. The data from the elderly people and leaders was very complicated about the accents; this might point out the original Lom dialect was going to disappear.
